General online fabric stores

Many online fabric stores have large haberdashery sections. It’s worth checking to see what they have if you are ordering fabric so you can save on delivery costs. Some stores offer matched thread suggestions for the fabric they sell.

Specialists

Bedecked

  • Huge collection of European buttons and trimmings, mostly sourced from France, Italy, Germany and Spain. All kinds of unusual and very decorative stuff.
  • UK delivery charge is £1.50 per order

Jaycotts

  • Established back in 1920, Jaycotts sell all kinds of haberdashery and sewing supplies. Sewing threads, including Gutermann sew-all thread in all sizes. Berisfords ribbons sold by the metre. Also sell sewing tools, machines and accessories together with sewing patterns.
  • P&P costs £1.50 and is free for orders over £25

Kleins

  • High-end haberdashers with online store and long-established shop in Soho, London. Sells zippers, interfacing and tailoring supplies, elastic, fastenings, ribbons and trims.
  • UK delivery costs £3.00 (Royal Mail second class)

McCulloch & Wallis

  • Traditional haberdashers established in 1902 – sells fine fabrics as well as a large range of haberdashery, trimmings, threads, tailoring and millinery supplies, and sewing equipment. Online store and shop in Soho, London. Their website is very well organised and easy to navigate.
  • Standard UK delivery costs £8.00+VAT (ouch!). There is a £3.50+VAT ‘ordinary post’ option for orders that will fit inside a 26cm x 20cm padded envelope but you need to allow up to 10 working days for despatch.

Paradise Ribbons

  • Stockists of Berisfords, Bertie’s Bows, May Arts and Club Green brands. Ribbons are available by the metre as well as in larger reels.
  • Postage is free for orders over £25. Postage costs for orders under £25 depend on weight – you have to log in to find out what the costs are which is a bit of a pain. Samples service available.

Ribbon Moon

  • Online haberdashery store with enormous selection of products – they stock over 28,000 items including Buttons, ribbons, lace, braid, thread, fasteners, zips, bra, trimmings, fringing, elastic, buckles, clips and many other things. Website is very well organised and easy to navigate with listings by category and A-Z.
  • UK delivery costs £1.39

Sew and So

  • Supplies for embroidery and needlework, quilting and sewing, and crochet and knitting. Full range of DMC embroidery threads and Gutermann sewing threads plus many other brands.
  • Delivery costs between £1.00 and £4.99 depending on the weight of what you order. If you order before 1pm Mon-Fri, delivery will usually be made the next day.

  • Sewing supplies including wide range of haberdashery, sewing machines and accessories, sewing patterns, fabrics and tools – over 20,000 products stocked.

You could try Jaycotts? They’re based in the UK but postage to Europe looks very reasonable.
