This is the wrap skirt I made to take on holiday using a pattern from Sew Everything Workshop. I didn’t wear the skirt much in the end but am hoping it will come in useful this autumn and winter instead.
Pattern details
Name: ‘breezy easy wrap skirt’ from Sew Everything Workshop
Description: A-line wrap skirt with fabric ties
Sizing: small, medium and large. I made the small size.
Fabric
Suggested fabrics are light- to medium-weight cotton, linen, shantung or silk. I used 1.5m of a medium-weight cotton-linen mix in dark brown.
Instructions
The instructions are incredibly detailed and easy to follow with clear diagrams. They’re aimed at beginners so there’s a lot more information than you usually find in sewing patterns. I couldn’t quite visualise how the skirt pieces would fit together but I followed the instructions and it all worked out fine in the end. The finished skirt fits well and looks pretty similar to the picture.
Likes and dislikes
Likes:
- Very easy-to-follow instructions
Dislikes:
- There are darts at the front of the skirt as well as the back. I’m not too sure about the front darts as they make my stomach look very rounded, but it’s not a major problem.
Pattern alterations made
- Shortened the skirt by 6cm.
- Didn’t like the side seams having raw edges so I turned the seam edges under and top stitched them to the side panels.
Conclusions
I’m quite pleased with the finished skirt but I’m not sure that I would sew it again. I think a straight-forward A-line skirt with a side zip is more flattering and, to be honest, not that much more work. The wrap skirt took a surprisingly long time to sew.
If you want to make a slightly retro-style wrap skirt, I’d recommend this pattern. It’s a good choice for beginners as there are no complicated techniques and the instructions are very clear.

How ever do you tie the thing? I’ve just finished mine and figuring it out, LOL.
Hi Jennifer
Sorry, I don’t have the skirt any more. It turned out that the fabric I’d used was really scratchy and uncomfortable to wear. All I can remember is pulling the waist tie through a slot then the rest of it’s a blank – so no help I’m afraid, sorry. Good luck in figuring it out!
All the best,
Steph
